Blog Post about three reading
I need help with a Writing question. All explanations and answers will be used to help me learn.
Please looking at the following: “The Riot Grrrl Manifesto” and “The Queer Nation Manifesto” to perform a 250-300 word rhetorical analysis on. Use Carroll’s “Backpacks vs. Briefcases” for guidance. Things to consider: what are the generic attributes of the manifesto? How does each discourse community perform those attributes? What are the differences between the two manifestos in terms of word choice and use of rhetoric (consider the patterns and written stylings of each). Consider how both were written only years apart in the early 90s. What do Riot Grrrl members want? How do they explain and structure their wants? What do ACT UP members want? How do they explain and structure their wants? Examples of things you can focus on: in “The Riot Grrrl Manifesto” what is the effect of starting each sentence with “because”–what is the function of such a word? Or what is the function of eliminating spaces between words like “beergutboyrock”? Or, what do you think ACT UP members mean by “An Army of Lovers”? What do you make of putting the word “army” in the same context as “lovers”? Or, what about “The Rules of Conduct for Straight People”? What are ACT UP members inverting with that title and the various rules? What kind of rules are these? Closely read moments of denotation and connotation and consider who the audience or audiences might be for these various manifestos. Make sure to include the quoted material that you’re analyzing.
