To prepare for this assignments, read this article on Mexico’s Day of the Dead. http://www.mexonline.com/daydead.htm (Links to an external site.) After you have read the required article and found an article of your own that concerns the Day of the Dead, I want you to write a five-paragraph essay in this form:

1. An introductory paragraph that will be two sentences long. The first sentence will be your hook. The second will be your a three-point thesis statement as the last sentence. It will be worded like this: From my readings of the Day of the Day the three most significant/interesting things I have learned about this celebration are: _____, _____, and _____.

2. The first body paragraph will summarize the content of the article I assigned you to read. No less than five sentences.

3. The second body paragraph will summarize the article you found. (No Wikipedia or sites like that!)No less than five sentences.

4. The third body paragraph will be a contrast of how the Halloween weekend is celebrated in America as compared to Mexico. No less than five sentences.

5. The concluding paragraph will be 2-3 sentences long. I want you to write me a good conclusion on how this story has affected, surprised, or informed you.

You will do this essay as a text entry, not an attachment, and I want you to find a small but interesting graphic and include it somewhere in your article. Label it correctly. This site will show you how to do that: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_tables_figures_and_examples.html (Links to an external site.)

Please click on your image and drag a corner up and shrink it a bit like I did for this image. If you click on EMBED IMAGE (4th icon from the left on your toolbar, you can click on Flicker commons, search for Day of the Dead, click on the image you want to use or you can upload your own image. You will have to go to HELP or this Canvas Student Guide to learn how to do this. http://guides.instructure.com/m/4212

Have a Works Cited entry at the end of your essay for my article, your article, and for your image. This site gives you the basic rules of entry. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/05/ (Links to an external site.)

Owl also has a sample Works Cited page. Make your online entry look like theres. If your Works Cited is not done or not done correctly you will lose twenty points automatically.
