2) PEER REVIEW #1 (IMANI)
In order to get my employees to behave and perform well, (yes, BEHAVE! managing 18-year-olds is a CHALLENGE!) I give them goals and incentives as well as positive and constructive criticisms. First I set a goal, a reasonable and easy to measure the goal. If we can cut our times down to 69 seconds or less I will pay for everyone’s lunch. If the goal isnt met we will collectively brainstorm ways to fix it. For example, I found that having to open paper bags sets us back five to ten seconds, which is major. So next shift we will pre-open bags and we will have the same goal and the same reward. If there is anyone with a sub-par performance I always first ask what is the matter, to ensure there is nothing going on outside our organization to cause this employee’s performance to decrease, if there is I send them home or on break if they wish or I give them a pep talk. I find that “you’re doing so great keep it up” works better than “why are you doing that?!”
3) PEER REVIEW #2 (SIRENA)
Hello everyone,
I believe in practicing what you preach. So if I expect my employees to be motivated, then I must display that behavior as well. I think it is essential to explain as well as provide tangible goals and duties as well as letting employees know that you trust them with these responsibilities and that we are counting on them. Each employee displays strengths, so I would highlight them by creating unique job duties bases on what that person does well. Next, open public recognition with reward programs and or random acts of kindness motivate a team to push harder and feel proud about themselves. Lastly, periodic open communication from the employee as well as myself about progress, shortcomings, and concerns helps workers feel valued.
