READING LOGS (33%): The Reading Logs consist of weekly writing assignments that respond to and analyze the readings assigned throughout the course. Students are required to turn in a total of 7 typed and double-spaced one-to-two page logs – one log per week. Each log should highlight and synthesize the main points of all the readings or present specific questions that you had about the readings, and it should discuss implications of the readings. The logs do not need to be comprehensive, and they are not summaries; they only need to demonstrate that you read the material. The logs are due on Wednesdays before the start of class at 7 p.m. and will not be accepted for credit after that point. No handwritten, emailed, or faxed transmission of assignments will be accepted. No exceptions! Keep your graded logs until the quarter has ended. The Grading Rubic and Log Guidelines handout explains how to write your logs in just two pages and solve common writing problems, and it illustrates the ASA citation format you will need to use when writing your logs. Familiarize yourself with this document before writing your first log. The first page of the handout is a copy of the grading rubric. Each week print a copy of the rubric and staple it to the front of your log. The TA will use this to record your log score and provide comments on your paper. And don’t forget to add a header with your name, perm number, the log number, and the date to the first typed page of your logs.
