In this essay, you need to focus on specific techniques the speaker uses, such as personal stories, charts and graphs, evidence from credible sources, etc, and analyze how they help the talk be effectively persuasive. Your essay must have a clear, focused argumentative thesis that briefly states the argument of the talk and makes an argument about how it is presented in a persuasive manner. In analyzing and evaluating the persuasive techniques used, focus on the three rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos. You do not need to, and should not try to, deal with all three. However, you must address at least one, but you do not need to identify it as such. For instance, if you are addressing how the speaker uses personal stories to create an emotional impact, you are focusing on pathos without using that term. Do not try to focus on all the techniques the speaker uses to be persuasive just on the ones that are most effective. You must use specific evidence from the talk, including at least three direct quotes from it, to support your evaluation. You must include a works cited, which should just have a citation for the Ted Talk, but your works cited does not count toward the 700-1200 word count.
