I’m studying for my Resume Writing class and don’t understand how to answer this. Can you help me study?

• Identification that is correct and makes a positive impression. Look at all the stuff in supplemental reading. It even tells us to make sure your phone greeting leaves a positive impression.
• Job and/or career objective—this must be targeted. It can’t be too general. See the examples of specific objectives in supplemental reading.
• Career summary—this needs to be quick as the supplemental reading says since the interviewer will likely spend about 40 second on your CV/ résumé. Label it Summary or Professional Profile as the reading suggests. Look at the 3 possible ways to do this on in supplemental material.
• Qualifications usually comes next. How it looks depends on the situation. Things you usually include are education (starting with most recent—and don’t have old news). Include grade point overall or in major or minor only if there is a B average or better. See the info in supplemental reading. After education is usually work experience and emphasizes the most important info. As you are going about the business of writing about your education and your work experience, you’ll want to analyze what you have done using those questions about “My Marketable Skills.” Also omit pronouns, use subject-understood sentences, and action verbs. See the examples in supplemental reading and list of action verbs.
• You might include some personal info next, but only if it leaves a positive impression and seems pertinent to the job and strengthens your overall case.
• References—you don’t need to do that for this assignment, but you can if you want.

• You’ll need to consider the type of résumé you write depending on the situation. There are chronological ways, functional CVs, and Chrono-functional CVs Chronological highlights education and experience. Functional highlights your skills. In short, if you don’t have a lot of experience or education, functional works better; but it always depends on the job or internship you are applying for.
• When the supplemental reading showcases the main stuff about preparing résumés for print or electronic delivery, it gives you lots of advice. Just make sure your own CV/ résumé looks very close to the examples—if not exactly alike.
