Instructions: For this assignment you will be reviewing literary criticism/articles about the texts we read for the course. You will have a total of 6 short reviews of the articles that you read. You should find two different articles for three of the following texts

– Charlotte Perkin’s Gilman “The Yellow Wallpaper”

– Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

– Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Paramo

You will have to review two articles per text chosen. The articles that you will review should be peer-reviewed sources and accessed through HCC libraries. Each article you choose must be at least 10 pages long. Not meeting these basic requirements will result in an automatic grade of 50. We will be going over how to find peer-reviewed articles in class.

Content of Review: Once you’ve found the peer-reviewed articles you want to read, you should print them, read them, and take notes on them. Then you should write a 300 to 400 word response to each article. This will be considered your annotation or review of the article. It should consist of the following:

1.First write a 5-7 sentence summary of the article. What is the article about and what particular interpretation and points is the article proposing?

2.Then explain how the article enhanced your understanding of the text in question. So, for example, if you choose an article that talks about “The Sandman”, then you should explain how that article helped you understand or enhanced your understanding of “The Sandman?” What things did it point out that you hadn’t caught? What did you learn from it? How did it change your understanding of the text in question? Why or how is the author’s particular understanding, reading, and/or interpretation of the text important or relevant to students of literature and/or students interested in the theme of madness?Remember you should have a total of 6 different entries.

Bibliographic Information: You must provide the bibliographic information (author, title, journal, publishing date, page numbers, etc) for each article/source that you are reviewing. This part goes at the beginning of your entries and should be formatted using MLA guidelines for documenting sources. It would basically looks like an entry in a Works Cited page. Entries should be organized by the primary text they cover and then in alphabetical order using the first word that appears in the bibliographic entry.
